In Language Arts: This week in Language Arts the students will be learning the y and ie spelling for the Long E. These can be found in words such as field, pony, and chief. The students will also be learning the cy spelling for S. This can be found in the words Lucy, cyclone and fancy.

The students will also be working on their final draft of their writing project that we have been working so hard on. The students have been great in orally creating sentences based on our “notes” that we have created and then writing them down. They are beginning to understand how to organize their ideas. This is a continued process that they will be working on throughout the year.

Spelling: This week the 7 words are:

got, green, help, here, how, into and just

Monday Homework: Please have your child write got, green, help, and here 5 times each.

Tuesday Homework: Please have your child write how, into and just 5 times each.

Wednesday Homework: Please have your child write 1 sentence for each of the 7 words. So at the end they should have 7 sentences total. * Spelling does not need to be perfect for words unless they are words they know how to spell or they are their spelling words.

Thursday Homework: Study your words for the test tomorrow!

In Math: The students will be starting Chapter 6. In Chapter 6, the students will be learning different strategies to solve subtraction problems. This week the students will be working with counting back and realizing that they cannot subtract in any order as they were able to with addition.

Standards Addressed: 1NS2.1 Know addition facts and the corresponding subtraction facts.

In Religion: This week the students will be starting Chapter 15. In Chapter 15, the students will be learning about God’s love and how they are children of God.

In Social Studies: This week we are starting Unit 3. The students will be learning about the different symbols and icons of our country. We will be learning about the history of our flag as well as symbols such as the bald eagle and the Statue of Liberty.
